Kagan Cooperative Learning Structures

Kagan Cooperative Learning Structures are step-by-step instructional strategies that increase student engagement and foster collaboration. At Vista, all teachers are extensively trained in the Kagan Cooperative Learning Structures, and the structures are used in every class on a regular basis.

The Kagan Cooperative Learning Structures promote 4 major principles, each of which is essential in the modern, transformative, classroom:

  1. Positive Interdependence: Learners rely on each other and support one another
  2. Individual Accountability: Every student has an important role to play in the learning
  3. Equal Participation: Every voice is equal and every student matters
  4. Simultaneous Interaction: Students engage in smaller groups at the same time

These 4 research-based principles are key to enhancing the quality and efficiency of student learning and achievement.
